Nettle seeds – vitality booster with kidney power

Brennnesselsamen – Vital-Booster mit Nieren-Power
Nettle is often thought of as a pesky weed and is therefore greatly underestimated. Nettle seeds, in particular, are packed with power and have been considered a natural tonic for centuries, energizing both body and mind. They can provide a real energy boost not only for humans, but also for our dogs and cats – provided you know how to use them correctly.

What are nettle seeds?

Nettle seeds come from the common stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) and are usually harvested in late summer. The small, greenish-brown grains are rich in vitamin E, linoleic acid, plant hormones, and minerals. They strengthen the kidneys, adrenal glands, and the entire metabolism – a property that makes them particularly valuable for older or weakened animals.

At buon viando, we rely on finely ground organic powder that can simply be sprinkled over food – no crumbs, no effort.

Effects on Dogs

In dogs, nettle seeds have a particularly positive effect in the following areas:

  • Kidney strengthening, especially in older dogs
  • Stimulation of metabolism, e.g., in sluggish-seeming dogs
  • Support in cases of exhaustion or convalescence
  • Strengthening of skin and coat – ideal during seasonal shedding
  • Gentle energy booster without overstimulation

Nettle seeds are ideal for seniors, sporting dogs, or dogs recovering from illness. They are generally well-tolerated and can be used as a course of treatment or for longer periods.

Effects on cats

Cats also benefit from these small power grains – but as always, less is more. Cats are more sensitive, so start with small amounts.

  • Kidney support, especially for older cats
  • More vitality and appetite
  • Gentle recovery for weaker constitutions
  • Gentle metabolism stimulation, without irritation

Important: Nettle seeds do not contain harsh bitter substances and therefore do not irritate the cat's sensitive gastrointestinal tract – a huge plus!

Application & Dosage

Our organic nettle seed powder can be easily mixed into daily food. It has a mild, nutty flavor and is generally well-received.

Dog: ¼ teaspoon to 1 teaspoon daily (depending on size)

Cat: A pinch to ¼ teaspoon daily
→ It's best to introduce it slowly and observe.

A course of 4–8 weeks is suitable for targeted support; for older animals, the dose can be extended after consultation with a specialist.

And how does this differ from nettle leaves?

In short: The seeds strengthen – the leaves dehydrate.

Nettle leaves are primarily used for acute inflammation, urinary tract problems, or for detoxification. They have a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and mineralizing effect. The seeds, on the other hand, build up energy, gently support kidney function, and strengthen the entire organism—ideal for regeneration, vitality, and senior care.

Conclusion
Whether for the tired senior, the convalescent dog, or the somewhat listless cat—nettle seeds are a natural all-rounder that provides gentle support without overtaxing. And that's precisely what makes them so valuable in natural animal health.
